Jewellery Care

  • Silver

All of the silver used in our jewellery is 100% recycled 925 sterling silver or 999 fine silver. Silver will tarnish overtime if not stored correctly. Our silver jewellery is safe to wear in water and it will not turn your skin green. Please see the notes on chemicals and backplates below.

We recommend keeping your silver jewellery in an airtight container or safely in our Asperitas Jewellery gift boxes which are tarnish resistant. The best thing you can do for your silver jewellery is wear it!

  • Gold Filled

Gold filled is a higher quality alternative to gold plated jewellery. It is a thick layer of 14k gold bonded to a base metal (usually brass) making it highly durable and more affordable than solid carat gold.

Gold filled jewellery is more sensitive to exposure to water so care should be taken to ensure the pieces are properly dried if exposed.

  • Cleaning

Every piece of our jewellery comes with a complimentary polishing cloth for you to use to keep your pieces shining. These cloths are impregnated with polish so simply rubbing them over the metal will bring out the shine. If your piece is particularly dirty, a soft brush and gentle soap and water is okay to use. Please ensure the piece is fully dried after water exposure to avoid further discolouration.

  • Backplates

If your item has a silver backplate, please be aware that any moisture which enters in behind the sea glass can cause discolouration to the silver. This cannot be removed. It is vital to take care when exposing these pieces to water. We try to ensure there are no gaps between the silver and sea glass to avoid the potential of this occurring but it is not always avoidable.

  • Chemicals

It is recommended to allow any perfumes to dry before wearing your jewellery. Additionally, we do not recommend wearing our pieces in chlorinated pools.

  • Sea Glass

The nature of sea glass means it can be quite fragile. There is risk of the glass cracking if force is used.

All of our sea glass is cleaned with gentle soap and water. Once set in jewellery, hypoallergenic baby oil is applied to bring out its colour.

Apply oil to your sea glass to bring out its bright colour. Simply wash the glass with clean water to return it to its frosted state. Frequent wear will keep your sea glass looking bright and colourful due to the natural oils of your skin.
